Airbnb Friendly Buildings in Vancouver

If you’re looking to use your property as an Airbnb home or a vacation rental by owner (VRBO), it’s important to know which buildings in the city allow for short term rentals in order to make the proper investment decision.

A short term rental is one that occurs for less than 30 days. Most strata bylaws in the city have voted against the use of short term rentals, so it’s important to be sure that if you’re looking to make extra income from your property, that it adheres to the City’s rules and that it’s permitted by your strata corporation. It’s important to be aware that even if your building allows for short term rentals, strata bylaws can be voted on and can change in the future.

Another important note is that the property you are renting out must be your primary residence, meaning that you must live in it for at least half of the year. You can either rent the entire property or a room, but an approval from the strata council is required. In order to supplement your income doing short term rentals, you must apply for a short-term rental business license as well.

In an attempt to make the housing market more affordable for residents of Vancouver, a number of taxes have been set in place in order to try and resupply the market with unused or vacant properties. Listed below are some buildings to consider that are Airbnb friendly. Please note that for every building, the bylaws are subject to change at any given moment, so it is best to do your own research before committing to a property.

Yaletown Airbnb friendly buildings:Search for airbnb listings in Yaletown here: Live Yaletown

Due to its previous industrialized surroundings, Yaletown acquired its name when the Canadian Pacific Railway moved its construction equipment to the area. Though we know it today for its modern surroundings, its history is still embedded within the neighbourhood. One of the focal points to visit in Yaletown is Engine 374 Pavilion and The Roundhouse Turntable Plaza which pays homage to the history of the district. Yaletown Brewing Company is a staple to the area, decorated in a modernized yet rustic style. Lastly, the Vancouver Seawall wraps along the area and is the perfect place to bike or walk along, especially during the summer.
