Things To Do This Fall

Vancouver weather has seemed to shift quite dramatically over the past few weeks into full on fall weather. The rain is back and has been coming down hard these few days, but don’t let that get in the way of enjoying this fall season! Here are a few suggestions of different activities to enjoy during the transition into the colder months. Be sure to check out the list of homes on the market at the end of this post!

Hikes/Trails

The best way to see the changing colours of the season is to go outside and immerse yourself in nature. Whether it be a leisurely stroll through Stanley Park or Deer Lake Park or hiking up the infamous Grouse Grind, the fresh air and breathtaking views will keep you feeling active and allow you to take autumn photo ops. Be sure to check out outdoorvancouver.ca for a full list of hiking trails to do this fall.

The Vancouver Art Gallery

If you’re trying to keep warm, visiting a museum might be the activity for you. The Vancouver Art Gallery is open all year round with permanent holdings including works from historical and contemporary Vancouver artists. The museum also has a cafe that overlooks the busy downtown streets. If you visit on a Tuesday, the entrance fee is by donation! Visit the Vancouver Art Gallery’s website for more information and to see current and upcoming exhibitions.

Vancouver International Film Festival

Starting towards the end of September each year is the Vancouver International Film Festival, one of North America’s biggest film festivals. Featuring 380 movies from over 70 different countries and screened throughout the 16 day festival, all you need to do to get in is purchase a ticket at the box office. VIFF is for anyone who enjoys watching and making films. Visit their website for details on purchasing tickets and other important information.

Fright Nights at the PNE

Fall would be incomplete without celebrating Halloween. And the best way to celebrate this spooky season is to visit Fright Nights hosted at the PNE. As always, the event will take over the entire amusement park with bone-chilling exhibits and live shows as well as fire performances. The exhibit’s rides will still be running as well as seven haunted mansions for you to scream your way through. *Fright Nights at the PNE is expected to run this year but will be in accordance with BC health guidelines.

Wine Tours

Although summer is over, that doesn’t mean that the wine tours have to end! The best time to visit your local vineyard and wineries is actually between late August and early October; this is when the grapes are being harvested and the crushing begins. New wineries have opened up in Richmond and places like Langley have wine tours and tastings that are open all year round. Check out Lower Mainland Wineries for a list of vineyards to visit and to plan out your next trip for the harvest season.

Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze

A classic and fun family activity to do during fall is to go pumpkin picking and visiting a corn maze. Places such as Chilliwack and Abbotsford are filled with different farms for you and your family to visit. Fantasy Farms in Chilliwack is the perfect place to experience a kid-friendly pumpkin patch while also enjoying their haunted mansion and “maze of terror”, the perfect activity for everyone in the family to enjoy!
